Best Person for the Job – Rosa Garcia

Teamwork, hard work, determination and expertise – these are characteristics that inspire Rosa Garcia and that she brings to the table, or, in her case, the roof.

As the Director of Roofing at Spire Roofing, in Charleston, South Carolina, Garcia oversees sales, production management, and employee development. “I am dedicated to driving business growth while ensuring quality and customer satisfaction across every project,” she says, adding that her role also involves hiring and training sales representatives, and guiding teams to success. She’s clear about her career goal – expanding Spire Roofing’s impact by continuing to drive growth, developing future leaders, and exploring new opportunities in sustainable construction.

Garcia’s first professional role in the construction industry was in exterior remodeling, where she discovered a passion for helping clients bring their visions to life, she says. While she entered the industry through a national chain, honing her skills in project management and sales, she also grew up in a family construction business. There, she learned the ins and outs of the industry. But it was her own passion for teamwork and problem-solving that inspired her to pursue this career path.

As a woman in a male dominated industry, Garcia has run up against bias, but has also been surprised, in a good way. “One of the greatest challenges has been overcoming preconceived notions about women in leadership roles within construction,” she says.  “However, I’ve been positively surprised by the growing support for diversity and the respect earned through hard work and expertise.”

That support is demonstrated by Spire because the company prioritizes employee development. “We’re creating opportunities for growth and encouraging diversity within our team by fostering an inclusive culture that supports all employees, including women,” Garcia says.

Garcia loves empowering her team and delivering exceptional results that leave clients thrilled. “Watching projects come to life and knowing I’ve made a tangible impact is deeply rewarding,” she says. She’s especially proud of the work she’s done managing multiple complex roofing projects – successfully. These projects were challenging, but she believes the results exceeded client expectations.

Part of successful management is keeping up with the roofing industry’s embrace of technology, including advancements in project management tools that are, Garcia says, “reshaping the field for the better.” Innovations in materials, such as reflective and energy-efficient roofing, are also driving success in the industry.

In the future, Garcia hopes to see more women in leadership positions. There also needs to be a continued push to create equal opportunities, including mentorship programs, to create a culture that values diverse perspectives. She credits NAWIC for their work in advocating for women in construction, and for providing her with a platform for networking and skill-building. “It’s a valuable resource for personal and professional growth,” she says of her time with the South Carolina, Palmetto Chapter of NAWIC.

To other women in, or considering joining, the construction industry Garcia re-iterated her belief that hard work pays off. “Believe in yourself and don’t let stereotypes hold you back. The industry values hard work and determination, and your unique perspective can be a powerful asset.”
