Best Person for the Job – Mistie Hoover
“Your contributions will make a meaningful impact!” says Mistie Hoover, who works as a client experience advocate for Envirotrol. It is, Hoover recognizes, an uncommon role in the construction industry but it allows her to support clients and partners who make, she says, their own meaningful impact across various markets including pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, healthcare, mission-critical industries, and industrial sectors.
According to their website, Envirotrol delivers services that enhance their client’s ability to control, optimize, and maintain the performance of their buildings by deploying everything from scalable PLC/PAC and DDC industrial automation solutions to HVAC and refrigeration services.
Hoover believes that customers are the “lifeline of everything we do, and ensuring their satisfaction is the foundation of my work. Whether it’s fostering collaboration, driving solutions, or enhancing the overall client experience, I am deeply committed to creating value and supporting the transformative work of our partners in these vital industries.” Working in the construction industry is not a career she expected to have. Budget cuts in the school system led to Hoover being laid off, and a friend recommended her for a position at Envirotrol. The interview landed her a job offer and, during the second week in the position, she managed a critical audit for the whole company. It was a fast-paced introduction to her coworkers, the company, and the industry she’d just entered. She moved up the ladder first in a controls service coordinator role, then in sales until her promotion to Client Experience Advocate. “As I reflect back, I didn’t expect to ever work in the construction industry but now can’t see myself anywhere else!” Hoover says.
But the early days weren’t easy. “As a woman new to the industry, I initially faced challenges that many in similar positions can relate to. At times, I felt I wasn’t taken seriously and had to work harder than some of my peers to prove my value and capabilities. In a male-dominated industry, being seen as an equal to some of the male leaders and coworkers was not always a given.
However, the landscape is changing, with more women joining the industry and making their mark. This shift has led to increasingly positive interactions and a more inclusive environment.” Reflecting on the past decade, Hoover says that she’s gone from know little about the industry to being able to walk into a room full of industry leaders – with confidence. “This growth has allowed me to build strong relationships with EAS leaders and our customers,” Hoover says, adding, “earning their trust to manage some of our most critical clients with confidence and care—a responsibility I consider an honor.” Her impact has been noticed by leadership at EAS (Environmental Air Systems Companies, the umbrella company). She has been recognized by Comfort Systems USA for exceeding multiple sales milestones. The recognition reflects the company culture according to Hoover. “I take great pride in the culture that EAS Companies has cultivated – a culture that not only values diversity but actively embraces it,” Hoover says. “Over the years, we have made deliberate efforts to support women in professional capacities, ensuring they have the opportunities and resources to thrive. It’s inspiring to be part of an organization that prioritizes diversity and actively works to create pathways for women to succeed and lead.”
Similarly, the NAWIC culture has helped Hoover succeed in her career. “NAWIC fosters a culture of encouragement and collaboration, whether it’s a newcomer to the industry seeking guidance or an experienced professional striving to grow their business,” Hoover says.
She also elaborated on personal experience that being a part of NAWIC has been an invaluable because, “the organization has not only made me feel more welcomed in the industry but has also connected me with an incredible network of individuals who are dedicated to supporting one another. The unwavering support and resources they provide are a testament to their commitment to empowering professionals at every stage of their journey. It’s inspiring to be part of such a dynamic and uplifting community!”
NAWIC, and the construction industry, are communities Hoover encourages other women to join, exclaiming, “Go for it! Don’t hesitate or hold back—you bring unique talents and perspectives that add immense value to the field. We all have different strengths, and that’s what makes us thrive in this industry.”
