Tell us a little bit about your career and current position.

My husband has always been in construction, and he decided to get back into turnkey concrete work. Slowly but surely, he kept asking me to do new tasks and I found myself in quicksand! Before I realized how deep I was into assisting, I found myself applying for a woman owned business certification with WBENC, and now we are WBENC certified as a WBE and WOSB. Along with these certs, I’ve also attained HUB certification and currently pursuing WBE with the city of Houston.

How long have you been a NAWIC member, and how did you learn about NAWIC?

I’ve been a NAWIC member since August of 2020, and I learned about NAWIC because I was searching for a guiding association in the industry. I knew there were other women further along in the construction industry, and I knew that I needed to find a women-in-construction association that could teach, mentor, and/or encourage me along the way.

How has NAWIC helped you in your career?

In my very first virtual meeting with NAWIC members, I was so encouraged to see how much these women cared to share their experiences and the bottlenecks they encountered as women in construction. I’ve learned so much from NAWIC members, and they’ve inspired me to never doubt what I’m capable of achieving.

What is the best part about being a NAWIC member?

The best part about being a NAWIC member is the camaraderie that comes with being a member. You show up to the membership meetings and everybody welcomes you and tells you where they’ve been and where they are now. I’ve enjoyed hearing all of their stories, and you can’t help but feel that they are telling you this for a very important reason in your career.

Why do you consider NAWIC to be a great organization?

They have so many resources for women in construction that you would have to be blind not to see them. Plus, they have an attitude of “how can I help you in your career, please ask me!”

Congratulations to Margie for being recognized as part of our Best Person for The Job feature series. And thank you for all that you do for NAWIC! If you know of a NAWIC member that deserves to be recognized, contact us today.
